Snow Slows High Country, Few Problems Locally

Video will be available shortly.

Unexpectedly heavy snow caused some overnight closures on interstate 70, and some areas of Mesa County are also seeing snow including Glade Park.

Glade Park Store owner Teresa Johnson says precipitation changed from rain to snow just after sunrise this morning, dropping about five inches of wet heavy snow in the area. Johnson says it's the most snow she's seen in the 16 years she's lived on Glade Park.

The National Park Service also closed Rim road in Colorado National Monument for several hours this morning, but re–opened the road by 10AM.

Workers at Board and Buckle bike and ski shop are getting ready to switch seasons, and some buyers are excited by the snow and have already made some sales of clearance gear. But others are less than thrilled with the change of seasons, saying they still have a lot to do before winter settles in.

The valley officially has seen .45 inch of precipitation, causing waterfalls at lower elevations of the Monument and normally–dry washes to flow.
