The topic of the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms was the topic of a Saturday debate for political candidates in Grand Junction. Each candidate was asked two questions on gun control topics.
Scott Tipton, the Republican candidate for Congress in the the third congressional district says that the penalties should not be placed on citizens, but on those who commit crimes.
Politics aside a major theme at the debate was the fact that the right to bear firearms is more then just participating in outdoor sportsmanship.
Lieutenant Governor Janet Rowland says, "We have a right in the 2nd amendment to not only use guns for sportsmanship activity but to have guns for our own protection."
With the general election just one month away the candidates were also given a chance to briefly highlight their own campaign platforms.
