On any given day nearly 200 hungry people pack into the soup kitchen in Grand Junction for lunch, but today there over 800 people lined up there, all to help those less fortunate.
Grand Valley Catholic Outreach held their 11th annual Empty Bowls Benefit today in hopes of raising twenty thousands dollars. Potters from all around the state have been busy making bowls for the benefit,
and today each bowl sold for twenty two dollars. Once the participants picked out and bought their bowl, they went into the dining room to choose from dozens of different soups to fill their bowl .
Executive Director of Catholic Outreach, Sister Karen Bland, says, "When they leave, they take their bowl with them, its theirs. Then it sits on their self to remind them that people do go hungry in our valley and there are many ways we can alleviate hunger."
All of the money that is raised today goes to help fund the Catholic Outreach Soup Kitchen.
