After today Interstate 70 will be about eight teen hundred pounds lighter.
The Horizon–Sunrise Rotary Club teamed up with students from Central High School today to pick up trash along a two mile stretch of Interstate 70. The crew picked up between 50 and 60 trash bags full of debris. There were about 24 volunteers to help with the clean up,
and half were students.
"Its good to get younger leaders involved with different programs in our community. They are our future so if they get trained in leadership, they will grow into that as adults," says Dr. Randy Roman, Highway Clean-Up Community Chair.
The Rotary Club does volunteer clean ups twice every year,
they adopted the two mile stretch of highway between Horizon Drive and Clifton five years ago. They say it is important to keep this area clean because it is the gateway into Grand Junction.
