Dow Reaches Record High, Still Short of 12,000

Investors are keeping their eyes on the stock market as it continues to inch toward the 12,000 mark as the Dow Jones index soared to a new record of 11, 980...up more than 20 points from Friday's closing.
The NASDAQ composite index and Standard and Poors 500 index
also saw gains. One expert says a number of recent factors have gone into fueling the rise in stocks, including dropping gasoline costs and predictions of a warmer-than-normal winter for most of the nation, which should put more money in consumer's pockets for the critical holiday shopping season.
