Schools Participate In Lock-down Drills

School has been in session for nearly two months and for students that means not only getting back into the swing of things- but it also means practicing safety drills. Just like fire drills, lock-down drills are commonly practiced throughout the school year, especially during the first couple of months of school.

Tuesday afternoon Grand Junction High School participated in a lock-down drill. The drill included going through a checklist to communicate what safety procedures are in place.

A District 51 Spokesperson says it's important to practice lock-down situations so that everyone knows what role they play in the event something should happen. The spokesperson also adds that lock-down drills have been around for a while but after the Columbine Massacre schools began to practice them more.
