A tip on an erratic driver leads to a pursuit and crash in Grand Junction last night.
A Colorado State Patrolman and a Mesa County Sheriff's deputy were talking in a shopping center parking lot just before midnight when a citizen stopped to point out an erratic driver. The two officers began following the car eastward on North Avenue.
The sheriff's deputy lost sight of the car and trooper at a stop light. The trooper followed the car into the Rose Trailer Park and several side streets off North Avenue and tried to spin the jeep out.
The deputy soon caught up with the trooper and car. At that time the driver sped at full-speed toward the deputy, who managed to avoid a collision. The trooper caught up with the car again and finally pinned it against a fence at 29 Road and Bunting Avenue.
The trooper was unable to get out of his wrecked car in time to keep the driver driver from fleeing on foot. The State Patrol trooper had minor injuries to his hand and knee. Neither officer was able to provide a description of the suspect.
