Montrose County Clerk & Recorder Candidates

There are nearly 20–thousand registered voters in Montrose County and the two candidates for Montrose County Clerk and Recorder are hoping those voters will cast their votes for them so they can be in charge of future elections.

Democratic Candidate Regina Sowell is a Montrose Native who says she's been actively involved in politics and elections for 40 years; 12 of which she spent as an election judge. She also possesses a background in communications, marketing, education and management and now she wants to be Montrose County's next Clerk and Recorder. Sowell says, "We've had basically the same administration for 27 years and usually they just succeed themselves in office and I don't believe one is an option. I believe we shouldn't be rubber stamping a bureaucracy and that people need a choice."

Republican Fran Long is a Colorado Native with a background in business management education. For the past eight years she's worked for the Montrose County Clerk and Recorder's Office. Long says, " I've worked in just about every aspect of the office so I'm pretty well prepared to make a seamless transition over to County Clerk and Recorder.

The County's Clerk and Recorder Office has a wide range of responsibilities, the most notable probably being to register voters and conduct all primary, general and county elections.

If elected Sowell says there are two other issues she will address. One will be re-designing the website and the other will be working to extend the office's hours. Long says the office is already working to make the website more user friendly but that budget constraints have made it hard. She also believes that once more services are available online there will be no need to extend the office's hours of operation.

Long says a vote for her means more effective and efficient service. Eight years of knowledge and experience for a seamless transition. She says she's different from her opponent because " I have knowledge and experience to ensure service the citizens can be confident of."

Sowell says a vote for her means open responsive government, clear and accessible information for increased service and honest and secure election. She says she differs from Long because, " I'm not part of the system: I'd bring a fresh approach."
