Officials at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center hope that tonight the Grand Junction planning department will approve the hospital's most ambitious expansion plans ever.
The 261-million-dollar project provides for the construction of a 440–thousand square foot patient tower and remodeling 120–thousand square feet of existing hospital space. Work has already begun on creating construction parking and storage space for the project...
If approved, the project will add 12 new surgery suites and an extra 98 beds to the facility for a total of 345 beds.
Construction of the tower is expected to begin next June, with completion of all work by 2011. If approved by the Planning Department, the city council will hold hearings on the project in November.
