A distraught man bent on killing himself survives a head–on crash into a tractor–trailer truck on Orchard Mesa this morning.
The unidentified man was southbound on 32 Road near B1/2 Road when he crashed into the truck. The impact destroyed the driver's–side corner of the car and sent the man to St. Mary's hospital with a broken hip.
A witness says the crash happened all of the sudden as the driver veered without warning into the path of the truck.
The man had a can of gasoline in the seat of the car, which reports indicate he planned to use to burn himself. The man has been placed on a psychiatric hold.
