Trooper Shooting Suspect Is Identified

Cori Elizabeth Graham was arrested Wednesday night after she drove up to a check point on county roads 331 and 311. Ending a massive multi–agency hunt for the man who shot Trooper Brian Koch, when officers stopped her pick–up truck and asked for her ID. They say she seemed nervous, and she took off running when they spotted something moving in the back seat of her truck. That's also when authorities heard a gunshot under a blanket they discovered shooting suspect Steven Appl who appeared to have shot himself..

The Garfield County Coroner pronounced the Parachute man dead at the scene. Graham was arrested and faces charges including assessory to a crime, tampering with evidence, and obstructing a peace officer.

The relationship between Graham and Appl is not being released at this time; however residents in Parachute speculate it may be drug related.

Appl was a long time resident of Parachute, and those who knew him say that his troubles began once he became involved with drugs.

Authorities say Appl shot Trooper Koch three times, twice in his bullet proof vest and once in his wrist after a traffic stop near rifle Tuesday night.

Graham, a Debeque resident is out on bond, and while the manhunt is over for Appl, authorities say they will continue to investigate the series of events which led to the shooting in the first place.
