A bicyclist is struck and killed by a car on North Avenue in Grand Junction prompting road closures.
The accident happened just before 8 p.m. on Saturday night and is the second fatal incident involving a bike rider in a 24 hour period.
According to the grand junction police department, the male unidentified rider was hit in the eastbound lane of North Avenue by a male driver, who is described by police as inexperienced.
Police also say the rider was not wearing a helmet, and did not have any reflective equipment on his bicycle. It was also determined that the rider was in the actual roadway when hit. North Avenue was shut down between 15th and 12th Streets while accident reconstruction crews try to determine exactly what happened.
