A traffic stop in Grand Junction early this morning leads to a high speed chase and ends with the suspect being shot by authorities.
Officers pulled over a man at 7th and Colorado at 6:00 a.m.. When they approached the car they say the suspect had a gun in his lap. The officer stepped back and the man took off. An attempt to locate was put out to all local law enforcement agencies.
About an hour later, a home owner at 1800 16 1/2 Road in Glade Park noticed the suspect trying to steal one of their cars. When the home owner confronted the suspect he allegedly shot at the resident. The homeowner was not hit and went inside to call authorities. When Mesa County Sheriff's Office Deputies arrived on scene the suspect fled.
Deputies gave chase through the Monument and put up a road block on D-S Road, which caused the suspect to crash into several Sheriff's Office vehicles. Authorities then surrounded the suspects car and fired multiple shots at him. The suspect was taken to St. Mary's with multiple gun shot wounds.
There is no word on his condition or his identity at this time. DS Road on Glade Park will be closed while authorities continue to investigate this officer involved shooting.
