A misunderstanding between two Mesa County agencies leads to the mistaken impression the Fruita transfer station will close at the end of the year.
Mesa County Administrator Jon Peacock says earlier this year the Board of Commissioners were advised by the waste management coordinator that the transfer station should be closed because of a lack of need and increasing costs. Unfortunately, it was later thought the plan had been approved by the board when it had not.
Peacock says if the issue of the transfer station comes before the Commissioners the public and media will be given ample notice.
