Four Car Crash Closes Thoroughfare

Video will be available shortly.

A major artery into Grand Junction is shut down for more than two hours on Saturday after a four car pile up. The pile up caused Highway 50 and the 5th street bridge to be shut down as authorities reconstructed the accident.

An initial collision between two vehicles, happened in the northbound lanes of highway 50 near Unaweep avenue. However, due to the force of the crash the vehicles wound up in the southbound lanes which caused two more vehicles to be involved.

Five people were taken to St. Mary's Hospital, however, names ages or extent of injuries were not disclosed. The bridge was shutdown while the Grand Junction Police accident reconstruction crew determined the cause.

Traffic was diverted to the 29 road bridge and was allowed back on the Highway and the 5th street bridge shortly before 5 p.m.
