Testing For Chronic Wasting Disease

Big–Game hunting season ended Sunday in Coloardo, and so will the collection of deer, elk, and moose heads for chronic wasting disease testing.

Colorado Division of Wildlife spokesperson Randy Hampton says the number of heads submitted this year is down statewide from previous years. He says the public is becoming used to the idea of the disease, which affects the nervous system of members of the deer family. Hampton says that is slowing the advancement of scientific knowledge about the disease.

Hampton says Colorado is at the forefront of science when it comes to C-W-D, but hunters will need to continue their efforts in providing specimens to answer more questions about the disease.
