Cost Of A Thanksgiving Meal

Turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie and fresh cranberries are just a few of the familiar favorites needed to make a Thanksgiving feast, and this year a family of 10 will only pay $1.32 more this year for those Thanksgiving fest items.

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation's 21st annual informal survey, the average cost for this year's feast for 10 is $38.10.

The shopping list includes turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, relish tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream and beverages. All in amounts they say are sufficient for a family of 10.

The AFBF has been conducting this survey since 1986 and says the inflation–adjusted cost of a Thanksgiving Dinner has remained around $20 for the past 16 years. They also say this year's cost of $38.10 is equivalent to $18.99 1986 inflation–adjusted dollars, which means the real cost of the Thanksgiving dinner has declined 34% over the last 20 years.
