Attempted Murder Suspect In Court

A man facing 33 felony charges in Mesa County including 10 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Peace Officer was in court Tuesday morning.

Andrew Young appeared before Judge Brian Flynn with a Public Defender as he had requested during his last court appearance. The 28–year–old was cuffed and shackled wearing a cast on his left arm and a bandage on his right wrist which appeared to be covering gunshot wounds he received from last Monday's shooting on Glade Park.

Young waived his right to preliminary hearing within 30 days and will be back in court in early January.

According to an arrest warrant, on November 13th, Young eluded officers after a traffic stop in Grand Junction, attempted to steal a car on Glade Park and then rammed his car head-on into a road block of government vehicles. He then pointed a black semi–automatic handgun out of his wrecked car window three times and alledegly shot at officers prompting several to return fire.

Young has spent a number of years behind bars and has lengthy rap sheet which dates back to October of 1996.

His bond is set at $800,000.
