A 14–year–old juvenile remains in custody at the Department of Youth Corrections after he allegedly tried to start a fire at Grand Junction High School.

Students at the school told officers the boy tried to burn a plexiglass window using a "bic" lighter and an unknown accelerant.
When school officials intervened the boy became combative.

The plastic window was destroyed in the incident. The boy is charged with first degree arson, which is a felony, as well as interfering with school officials and criminal mischief. He reportedly gave no reason for starting the fire.
