Council Asked To Back Clean Air Initiative

In the next few weeks, a state board will decide whether to adopt new emissions standards for parts of Colorado and one group is asking Grand Junction City Council members to back a resolution asking for uniform standards.

The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission has the task of setting the standards, however, the clean air measures will differ from the Front Range and the Denver metro region, where air pollution is already a problem.

With the energy industry and population on the rise, Western Colorado Congress is asking the commission to consider stricter standards and say a proactive approach to pollution is the answer for Western Colorado.

The groups resolution has the backing of several Western Slope communities and Grand Junction City Council will consider whether to support the measure on Wednesday night during its regular meeting.
