Commissioners Approve 2007 Budget

The Mesa County Board of Commissioners Friday approved a 2007 budget that is only slightly higher than this year's funding.

County Administrator Jon Peacock detailed the budget for commissioners Friday morning. At nearly 154 million dollars, the 2007 budget is 4.3 per cent higher than 2006 outlays for county government.
The biggest outlay is for public safety and community development, with
those two areas comprise 53 per cent of total funding.

County officials predict a revenue increase of 12 per cent next year because of population growth. Taxpayers may get some good news, for although the mill levy used to calculate property taxes will remain the same there may be a temporary reduction due to TABOR restrictions.
