No Swimming: E. Coli Contamination
The popular Fruita swimming hole, James M. Robb State Park, is closed for the summer, because of high amounts of E. coli.

The popular Fruita swimming hole, James M. Robb State Park, is closed for the summer, because of high amounts of E. coli.
Because of the recession, park officials say the contamination of the lake is just too expensive to clean up.
Park Manager Brad Taylor says not only do they need to find out what caused the E. coli levels to rise, but they need to get those levels down.
Taylor says they know how to fix the problem, but the bigger problems is how expensive the cleanup will cost.
After layoffs and budget cutbacks, the park can not afford to pay the thousands of dollars to pump it out.
So where did all the E. coli come from?
The leading theory is heavy rain funneling goose excrament into the lakes water, but researchers cannot say for sure.
Until they have the definite reason, the water will most likely be off-limits this summer.
