For the Fourth of July weekend many people are grabbing their tent and heading to the nearest campsite.
“It's Fourth of July, we've had people out here since six this morning setting up picnic tables and getting ready for the rest of the day,” says Carolyn McGloin who runs the entrance gate at Highline Lake State Park.
The campsite at Highline is all booked up and officials say it's because camping provides a thrifty get away, “Particularly with the economy a lot of local people like to stay here, cut down on mileage and travel time; you've got it nice for about 50 dollars for the weekend, says Neal Sampson, the Campground Host at Highline.
Unlike highline, the Colorado National Monument still has open camp sites, but officials say it’s busier than last summer, “We had a weekend in May where we had to put up campground full signs because there was no space left,” says Kemper Towler, the Campground Host at the Monument.
If you haven't camped before don't be afraid to head into the unknown officials are eager to help you, and remember it's just about having a good time this summer.
