After weeks of intensive training, the Grand Junction Fire Department welcomed 19 men to its unit Saturday.
The fire recruits started their training this past October, and endured physical and mental exercises to prepare for the job. The Grand Junction Fire Department recruits every two years. This past hiring process more than one thousand people applied for the position, but the department only hires the cream of the crop.
The 19 recruits are Firefighter and EMS certified.
