A lawsuit filed by NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol against a charter firm could change how such companies operate in the future.

Many charter companies are not regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Ebersol lawsuit could result in more oversight. The lawsuit says the pilots flying the Challenger executive jet were not qualified to fly that type of craft in bad weather.

Air Castle was subcontracted by Key Air Incorporated for the flight. Ebersol's charter plane crashed at Montrose Regional Airport on November 28, 2004, killing Teddy Ebersol and two flight crew members.
An investigation shows that the plane was not de–iced before taking off that afternoon in heavy snow.
