Unemployment Down But Need For Labor Is Up

Unemployment in Mesa County is low, a full percentage point lower than the state's 4.1 percent average, but despite the numbers some sectors are suffering.

The exploding energy industry is causing a shift as many workers who would other wise be in the construction business are being drawn to higher paying wages in the energy fields.

The Mesa County Workforce Center has nearly 70 vacant construction jobs available and nearly 500 jobs in all fields, but there's a problem-- not enough workers.

Associated Builders and Contractors is still looking for students for its spring course at Western Colorado Community College.
