Party-goers need to keep a close eye on alcohol consumption this weekend,
because local law enforcement will doing so as well.
Thanks to a Law Enforcement Assistance Fund Grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation, local agencies will be able to put officers on patrol without tapping payrolls for overtime. That will put four additional Grand Junction officers and a number of extra Mesa County Sheriffs Office deputies on the road this weekend.
Sheriffs Office spokesperson Norma Mestas says there won't be drunk driving checkpoints this weekend, but extra deputies will be on the roads of Mesa County this weekend with the sole purpose of looking for drunk drivers.
Funding for LEAF grants come from fines paid by drunk drivers. This year local agencies are receiving 40 thousand dollars in funding from the program.
