As kids in District 51 prepare to head back to school on Tuesday new bus drivers are being trained to get them there safely.
A low unemployment rate and a booming oil and gas industry made it hard for Laidlaw transit to find drivers to fill their bus routes. When traditional means of advertising didn't work they got aggressive, even calling on Santa clause to help solicit potential employees.
Their efforts paid off, and more than 30 people applied for jobs with the company and now all 135 bus routes are filled with qualified and friendly drivers.
Laidlaw is always accepting applications. Training is free and pay starts at $9.00 an hour.
