A memorial mass has been scheduled for one of the founding fathers of the Junior College World Series in Colorado.
According to Mesa County Commissioner Tillie Bishop, a memorial mass for 74–year–old Sam Suplizio will be read January 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The church is located at 230 N. Third St.
Bishop tells 11 News that his dear friend was truly a Grand Junction icon.
Suplizio played pivotal roll in bringing the annual National Junior College World Series to the Grand Valley and a Major League Baseball franchise to Colorado. He also helped get a new home for the Denver Broncos. And worked for Home Loan and Investment Co. in Grand Junction for 40 years and was president and CEO of the company when he retired in the late 90's.
The baseball guru and businessman died Friday of heart failure at his home in South Carolina.
