Bomb Squad Called Out To Detonate Homemade Explosive Device

Video will be available shortly.

The Grand Junction Bomb Squad was called out early Saturday morning to defuse a homemade explosive device in Clifton.

Around 12:30 a.m. the Mesa County Sheriff's Office contacted three men who were walking on 2nd Street. When they approached the men, one of them allegedly threw the explosive device to the side and took off running. The bomb squad was called out and destroyed the bomb, which was made out of household cleaners, chewing tobacco, and a black powder used for hunting.

At this time, there is little suspect information, but fingerprints on the bomb are being analyzed. The two other men do not face any charges at this time and say they met the bomb suspect just minutes earlier. The suspect faces a felony charge of possession of an explosive device.
