Local Reaction On Nancy Pelosi

This year's mid–term election reconfigured the U.S. House of Representatives, giving way to the leadership of the first female Speaker of the House.

It is the first time in United States history a woman has ever been the Speaker of the House. So far, regardless of party affiliation most people applaud her new leadership role.

"I think she's awesome, I'm excited, I have a daughter so I'm thinking she has a pretty great future," said Grand Junction resident Sarah Larsen.

"I think it's great, I think it's empowering for females in our country," Erin Carmosino said.

With a deadly war in Iraq, many people see the change in leadership as an opportunity for a new direction in Iraq. Some may not realize, but Pelosi's position could lead her into the oval office.

"She's of course 3rd in line for the presidency now, if something were to happen to the president and vice president– that's never happened in the past but I don't think we'll get to that point but is interesting to note that she is 3rd in line right now," said Republican Jeff Freeland

In a recent 11 News Poll, we asked whether Nancy Pelosi would be an effective speaker of the house. 16 percent of those who responded said yes, and the majority, 84 percent said no.
