Police Warn Of Sexually Violent Predator Living In Grand Junction

For the first time ever, a registered sexually violent predator is living in Mesa County.

In keeping with state law the Grand Junction Police Department notified about 850 residents and businesses that a sexual predator who is likely to offend again is living in their neighborhood.

At this time authorities aren't releasing his name, but after searching the CBI's convicted sex offenders website, 11 News has learned it's 34-year-old Tommy Lance Wilkerson. Wilkerson was convicted of attempted 3rd degree sex assault, use of force in 2000, 2nd degree sex assault in 1993, and sex assault in 1992.

In order to address community member's concerns a meeting will be held this Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Grand Junction City Hall Auditorium. It will also be televised on local cable channel 12.

Police say the purpose of the meeting is to help the public understand how sex offenders are managed in Colorado.

Police Spokeswoman Linda Bowman says, "it is important to understand that this is a person who has been monitored 24 hours a day, he has been almost under a microscope by law enforcement, his parole officer and medical professionals every minute of the day. He has a GPS tracking device. he is really minding his 'P's and 'Q's because we are all over him."

Because of the mature content of Thursday's meeting authorities advise that children under the age of 15 should not attend or watch it on TV.
