Morning fog in Denver lifted Tuesday, giving way to sunshine and a new era as Governor Bill Ritter was sworn in as Colorado's 41st Governor.

Salutes, cheers and acceptance speeches highlighted Tuesday's ceremony, which for some in the crowd of several thousand capped months of hard work.

"It's my first inauguration and it's exciting to be able to call him Governor Ritter," spectator Colleen Madden said.

Governor Ritter spoke of many things in his comments, praising not only his predecessor Bill Owens, but Colorado itself.

The 41st Governor of Colorado also laid out his platform of importance, including renewable energy, education, among others, which is the cornerstone of his Colorado Promise.

Governor Ritter also spoke of the importance of forming a non-partisan government, but it's important to note that this is the first time in nearly 50 years that Colorado has a Democratic Governor and a Democratically controlled legislature.
