More than 1,000 people gathered in Grand Junction Thursday to remember baseball guru Sam Suplizio.
From loved ones and dear friends, to baseball hall of famers and business buddies; St. Joseph's Catholic Church was filled with those who knew and cherished the late Sam Suplizio. Lifelong friend Tillie Bishop said the memorial was a real tribute and the service itself was exceptionally well done.
Recently retired Angels Player Tim Salmon gave an impromptu eulogy at the memorial mass. In it Salmon recalled how he looked to Suplizio for guidance on the field and in his everyday life. Salmon said, "You know as much as he taught me about baseball, he taught me more about life."
A mentor and a father figure aren't the only things Suplizio will be remembered for. He was also a successful businessman with strong principals.
He was a man who touched many lives, and his influence no doubt will live on; even in death.
