Natural Gas Out In Valley For Many Xcel Customers

On Monday morning, January 15, Xcel Energy reported a gas supply problem in their system that may affect your neighborhood. If you are without natural gas in your home or business, please call 1-800-895-2999 to report that your gas is out.

If you smell gas, get out of your house and call 911 from a safe location.

Xcel Energy is working to re-pressurize their gas lines and relight pilot lights. It may be 24 hours or more until all gas service has been restored.

Once gas pressure is restored, you may relight your pilot lights. If for any reason you are unfamiliar with your furnace or relighting the system, contact Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-2999 to get on a list for relighting your furnace.

Authorities are asking patrons to be patient—it may be 24 hours or more before all pilots can be re lit.

Xcel Energy personnel should be wearing identification badges when they come to relight your pilot lights.

If you are without heat, you should seek alternate shelter with family or friends.

The Red Cross has also set up an emergency shelter at Canyon View Vineyard Church, located at 736 24 ½ Road in Grand Junction. The shelter will not be able to take pets.

If you decide to seek shelter elsewhere, please leave your contact information on your door in case Xcel needs to contact you to relight your pilots. Leave a small amount of water dripping from faucets to help prevent your pipes from freezing, and open cabinet doors under sinks. Due to the cold temperatures, please take your pets with you.

Please check on the welfare of your neighbors, especially the elderly or disabled, and contact 911 if they need special assistance. If you do not have transportation or have an emergency, please call 911.
