The 6–year–old girl who was hit by a car last week while walking home from school has been released from the hospital.
Officials with the Grand Junction Police Department say she was released from St. Mary's Hospital on Saturday, but say she still has a long road to recovery and probably won't be heading back to school for some time.
Police say the girl was walking on the north side of D1/2 Road near Pear Park Elementary with several other children when she suddenly entered into the roadway and was struck by a Lincoln IS Sedan.
Citizens have been speaking out about the dangers pedestrians face in that area prompting law enforcement agencies to meet with the school district to increase school zone patrols and put crossing guards in place.
Authorities say the driver of the car that hit the 6-year-old will most likely not face charges because it does not appear that speed or drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
