Two horses are dead and another one is injured after a tractor-trailer hauling liquid petroleum gas hits them on Interstate 70 early Thursday morning.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, a tractor-trailer was traveling west on I–70 when three horses who had escaped from a home entered the roadway. The tractor hit two of the horses sending them into the median and killing them. The other horse received an injury to its leg but is expected to recover.
Authorities say they would like to remind people with horses and cows and other outdoor animals to make sure fences and gates are secure.
The trailer that hit the horses was hauling liquid propane and authorities say they're relieved the load remained intact. The driver and the owner of the horses were not cited. Damage to the tractor–trailer is estimated at $30,000 to $40,000.
