It was a controversial ruling 34 years ago that brought people together Monday night in Grand Junction. On January 22, 1973 the United States Supreme Court ruled in the Roe vs. Wade case. The decision made abortion legal in the United States.
Mesa County Right to Life held their 4th annual candlelight vigil to mark the anniversary. Organizer Shari Bjorklund says the goal is to get people to realize the full impact ."Certainly we want to reach out to women who may have had an abortion or experience miscarriage but we also want to educate the public as to the bigger picture, the repercussions of abortion which include the loss of a workforce, the loss of wages," Bjorklund said Monday.
The group says there are nearly 50 million abortions world wide each year.
