The week of January 22nd is known, around the world, as the most depressing time of the year.
The Grand Valley has seen twenty three days of freezing cold temperatures this winter. The chilly weather, lack of sunlight, and shorter days are causing some to get the winter weather blues.
With such cold day, people are less likely to go outside to get exercise and in turn they get less sun exposure.
“My wife has to put up with my foul mood because I can't go out and get as much exercise as I'd like to,” says Grand Junction Resident, Steve Renner.
Clinical Psychologist, Linda Starbird explains these down moods as, "Seasonal affective disorder, it affects about 10 million people in the United States alone."
Experts say this disorder causes people to become sad, sleep more, eat more, exercise less and in turn gain weight. This depression comes on during the fall, and usually by spring all symptoms are gone.
