Grand Junction Fire Department investigators believe they know the cause of a blaze that gutted an Orchard Mesa car dealer over the weekend.
The fire was reported in a building on the J&M Auto dealership on Highway 50 Saturday night, and though firefighters arrived quickly the building suffered extensive smoke damage as well as damage to the roof.
The cause was traced to an electrical fault in a store room, but Fire Department Public Information Officer Mike Page says it could have been worse for the owners. "(They) did a great job of knocking down the fire pretty quickly and keeping it away from the rest of the building where the records are kept, and that would have been even more of an emotional loss to have the records stored in the office."
The fire caused an estimated one–hundred thousand dollars in damages to the sales office.
