Passenger Jet Makes Emergency Landing In Montrose


An American Airlines pilot made a safe landing in Montrose this afternoon after declaring an in–flight emergency en route.

The Canadair regional jet was carrying 70 passengers on a flight from Dallas–Fort Worth to Montrose when the pilot discovered the flaps--used in landings and takeoffs-- were not functioning.

Montrose Regional Airport Operations Manager Robert Precup says the plane landed much faster than normal to compensate for the loss of low–speed aerodynamic lift, but still had adequate emergency runway distance left.

He says no–one was injured in the incident.
