A man who escaped for a brief time from the Mesa County Jail last week had charges formally filed against him Tuesday.
Jesus Holguin is facing five charges, including escape and first-degree assault on a peace officer, this after Holguin led authorities on a 30-minute chase through the Riverside neighborhood, which is in close proximity to the jail.
Holguin's sister Candida Aguayo was also in court Tuesday facing charges in her role in the escape. Aguayo is also facing several charges, including vehicular eluding. However, at this point, prosecutors are unsure if Aguayo had prior knowledge of Holguin's plans to escape.
She is free on bond at this time and both are due back in court in the near future.
