Two bills authored by Senator Josh Penry were approved by the Colorado Senate Education Committee today.

One of these bills would increase Colorado's permanent education trust fund by more than three hundred million dollars over the next decade.

A second bill would redirect the state's growing federal mineral royalty dollars to road projects and new educational facilities in energy impacted areas.

Senator Penry says, "They're both very complicated bills. I was delighted that they move through with such bi–partisan approval. I think the argument that we need to invest dollars wisely in recognizing that the energy boom wont always be with us and investing in ways to benefit Colorado in the long term "

Both bills will now go to the appropriations committee for consideration and action.
