Attempted Child Enticement

A man is under arrest after he attempts to entice a Second Grade student near Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary School. The incident happened as the student was walking to school Wednesday morning.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office 29-Year-Old Kenneth McCann of Grand Junction approached the student and the arrest affidavit states McCann told him. "Your mother told me to come pick you up." McCann further tried to persuade the young boy by saying he had candy at his house.

The student reportedly ran away and told the Principal at the school about the incident. Later in the afternoon, the Sheriff's Office received a report that a man fitting the description of the suspect was in the area of Arlington Drive and Lexington Avenue.

McCann was taken into custody and later admitted to authorities that he wanted a child for himself and that is why he made the comments to the child.

Kenneth McCann is being held at the Mesa County Detention Facility for Criminal Attempt at Second Degree Kidnapping, a class 5 felony.
