Standoff Ends Peacefully

Video will be available shortly.

Grand Rivers Mobile Home Park was partially evacuated and the Career Center in lock-down because of a standoff that started around 8:30 Thursday morning.

Family members of Angel Sanchez, A.K.A. Angel Trujillo, asked the Sheriff's office to do a welfare check on her. Two probation officers and a deputy arrived at Sanchez' residence for burglary and several failure to appear violations, according to Mesa County Sheriff's Officer Lieutenant Jim Fogg. However, when contacted Sanchez refused to leave the trailer and said she was armed.

After making sure the public was safe the Sheriff's office was able to establish cell phone contact with her. Sanchez was still on the phone with negotiators when she walked from her trailer and in to custody at about 11:15.

Although Sanchez had originally told officers she was armed, Fogg says an initial sweep of the residence found no weapons.

She was transported to the Mesa County Detention facility and may undergo a psychiatric examination, as her family reports that Trujillo suffers from bi-polar disorder.
