Sexual Predators In the Community

Video will be available shortly.

In the past six years a sexual predator has never lived in the Grand Valley, but in the past few months several have moved in.

Back in 2000, Colorado passed a law that requires sex predators to register. When someone is convicted as a sexually violent predator in Colorado, they are usually sentenced to life in prison.

21st Judicial District Attorney, Pete Hautzinger says, "What we are dealing with now here in Mesa County is a couple of people who were convicted in other states and have moved here and we cant do anything, we cant stop them from moving here."

So instead, Mesa County law enforcement are tightening up restrictions on these sexually violent predators and reviewing each case individually.
