Decision To Resurface Stocker Stadium Upcoming

With about 30 games a year, Stocker Stadium's turf sees a lot of wear and tear. So to limit the wear and potential dangerous conditions, Grand Junction is looking at a new age AstroTurf as a solution.

On Thursday, the city's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted to recommend to city council the plan to switch to turf.

Talks on the subject have been on going for quite some time and with a price tag around $1M, the final decision will depend upon check book commitment.

"Right now it's getting commitment from the entities that use the facility. It's a good option right now, but we need commitment first before we proceed," Grand Junction City Councilman Doug Thomason said.

The initial plan was to resurface both Stocker and Suplizio Field, however, the baseball complex is at the moment cost prohibitive, particularly with the possibilities of a semi pro baseball team in Grand Junction up in the air.
