City & College Team Up To Increase Crosswalk Safety

Video will be available shortly.

For the last 18 months the City of Grand Junction and Mesa State College have been working together to make crossing 12th Street a little safer for students. Now the two entities say they think they have an answer.

Come mid–March the city plans to remove the crosswalk at 12 Street and Glenwood Avenue where a 17–year–old was hit Wednesday morning. They also plan to improve the crossing at Bunting Avenue and 12th Street by installing pedestrian activated flashing lights to alert motorists.

If the flashing lights are successful at making the crosswalk safer the college and the city plans to install them at all crossings on 12th Street up to Orchard Avenue.

The city and Mesa State will jointly fund the project.
