A bill that would hold delinquent parents responsible for paying child support by withholding their gambling winnings at casinos and racetracks passes the house Friday.
House Bill 1071 requires casinos and racetracks to check a database to see if a winner is behind on child support before making large payments. Finding out if the winner owes any back alimony would be as simple as dialing their social security number into a state automated telephone line.
According to the House Democratic Office, under the bill casinos and racetracks must withhold payments to any delinquent parent who wins more than $600 or $1200 from a slot machine. The winnings would go to the child.
