With an energy industry severance tax measure moving from the Colorado House to the Senate, Grand Junction Senator Josh Penry plans to not only back the bill, but to add a few things of his own.
In addition to House Bill 1139, which doubles the severance tax revenue for communities affected by the energy industry, Penry is working on two bills that will set aside the first $60M of royalties, half of which will go directly to Western Slope communities with infrastructure needs as a result of drilling.
"These people needed money yesterday to deal with the infrastructure challenges that the energy industry is creating," Penry said.
The Senator adds all Western Slope representatives, Democrat and Republican alike will be working together for the remainder of the session to make sure monies generated by energy are diverted back to where the impact is the greatest.
